背景
新型コロナウイルス感染症（COVID-19）のパンデミックにより、世界的なマスク不足が発生している。具体的には、Conformité Européene（CE）認証の Filtering Face-Piece（FFP2）タイプのマスクである。この不足は、品質が不明確な代替マスクの病院への供給の増大を招いている。それでも、医療従事者が使用するマスクの品質は確保されなければならない。
目的
Catharina Hospital における COVID-19 の可能性のある患者または確定患者の看護や治療にあたる医療従事者の呼吸用保護具の品質確保を目的としたプロトコルを作成すること。
方法
マスクの品質を確保するために、適用規格に基づいたプロトコルおよび基準を作成した。Catharina Hospital においてプロトコルを実施した。プロトコルには、マスクの添付文書の検証、マスクの目視検査、粒子のマスク内への全漏れ率の測定などが含まれる。
結果
Catharina Hospital が受領したマスクの商標と種類の 67％は品質基準を満たしていなかった。
結論
通常使用される CE 認証済みのマスクは不足しているが、簡便な検証プロトコルにより、マスクの品質がチェックでき、保証される。この院内プロトコルを用いて、医療従事者は安全に使用できるマスクを配備しておける。

監訳者コメント：
N95 や DS2 と同等の性能規格である欧州規格の FFP2 であるが、当該規格品は COVID-19 のパンデミックのための世界的に品不足となっている。こうした状況で指定の規格認定を受けていない製品の導入にあたっては施設内で導入予定の製品の検定を行うべきである。それにしても輸入品に混じっているまがい物には注意したい。
