心肺バイパス術後の患者において、マイコバクテリア感染症に関連した罹病率および死亡率は高く、これらの患者の診断・予防・治療の国際的な指針を作成するために、専門家のコンセンサスに基づく見解の必要性が増している。本稿では、International Society for Cardiovascular Infectious Diseases（ISCVID）が、予防（病院疫学の分野）、臨床上の管理（感染症専門医、心臓外科医、眼科医、その他）、検査室診断（微生物学者、分子診断）、機器管理（潅流技師［パーフュージョニスト］、心臓外科医）、および公衆衛生の面から作成した見解を述べる。

監訳者コメント：
M. chimaeraはM. intracellulare・M. avium に近縁の遅発育抗酸菌であり、心臓血管外科手術の体外循環に用いられる冷温水装置の汚染によって、創感染、播種性感染の患者が多発したことで知られる。今回のガイドラインは本菌による感染症の診断・治療・予防の多方面にわたってまとめられたものであり、先進的な試みといえよう。なお本菌の正確な同定は、遺伝子同定を用いても容易ではなく、全ゲノム解析による近縁種との系統関係を解析した検討においても、種としての独立性に疑問を呈する意見がある。
