クロルヘキシジンを用いた清拭および鼻腔内ムピロシンによる体表面除菌は、医療関連感染症予防のための簡便な対処法となっている。この実践によって、誰が、どのような理由で、どんな時に利益を得るのか理解するために、この実践に関する臨床試験でのエビデンスをレビューする。最大の有効性を得るには適切な適用が必要とされるので、清拭および鼻腔内除菌の方法も検討する。現時点での有効性と、将来的に耐性が増幅する可能性の相反については、最後に論じることとする。

監訳者コメント：
生体の皮膚粘膜には正常細菌叢があり、過度の除菌によりかえって病原菌の付着しやすい環境が生まれる可能性がある。除菌を試みる上でもより特定の病原性細菌に限定して排除できるような方法が理想的である。また、頻回の負荷によっても耐性化しずらい化学物質を使用することが望ましい。
