本論文は、人工関節置換術において、層流換気システムが SSI 減少を目的として使用されるべきではないという 2016 年の WHO ガイドラインの推奨に対する反論（つまり、層流換気システムは SSI 予防に有用であると主張したい）を目的としている。この議論に興味のある読者は一読してみてはどうだろうか。
