医療環境内の表面は、薬剤耐性病原体の伝播に重要な役割を果たしている。カンジダ・オーリス(Candida auris)は、環境表面上に長期間生存しうる新興の多剤耐性酵母である。今回の試験では、14 日後に細胞凝集体形成能により生存率が上昇しており、これはバイオフィルム関連遺伝子のアップレギュレーションと一致することを明らかにした。さらに、凝集株は臨床濃度の次亜塩素酸ナトリウムに耐性を示し、処理 14 日後に依然として生存可能であった。環境表面に付着し存続する C. auris の能力から、この真菌性病原体の生態をさらに理解する必要性を強調する。

カンジダ・オーリスがバイオフィルムを形成し、次亜塩素酸ナトリウムに耐性を示すことは、医療環境において問題となり得る。医療環境の消毒の検討は益々重要になってくると思われる。
