Assessing hand hygiene attitudes of inpatient nursing personnel in a US military hospital

病院感染のうち 10％から 40％は、医療従事者の手指による交差汚染に起因している。本研究では、固定した米軍施設 1 カ所において、軍服および病院提供のスクラブを着用している参加者の手指衛生の頻度を調査した。これらの服装を着用時に行った手指衛生の回数の中央値は、1 時間あたり 10 回 であった。しかし職員の 3 分の 2 が、軍服によって手指衛生を行いにくくなったと述べた。手指衛生を向上させるために、軍関係者は看護職員が長袖の軍服を着用するよう義務付けた方針を見直すべきである。非軍事施設においても、長袖の衣服が手指衛生に及ぼす影響について検討した方がよい。

監訳者コメント：
軍服の着用を義務付けている米軍医療施設での、手指衛生に及ぼす服装の影響を調査した報告である。手を洗う／擦式消毒薬を使用する回数は軍服とスクラブとで変わらなかったが、長袖の軍服が手指衛生の徹底に不利となると答えた割合は、軍服を着用している時よりも、スクラブを着用している時に有意に多かった。服装という基本的なファクターがやはり手指衛生に関する意識を左右するという具体的な一例であるかもしれない。
