Detection of rotavirus in paediatric oncology patients with diarrhoea: the impact of rotavirus vaccine

2013 年 7 月に英国全体で行われたロタウイルスワクチン接種の導入前および導入後に地域の小児腫瘍科で治療を受けた患者を対象としたロタウイルスに対する便検査を検討するため、7 年間のデータをレビューした。ロタウイルス陽性の割合はロタウイルスワクチン接種の導入以来減少し、2010 年から 2012 年には 416 検体中 21 検体が陽性であったが、2015 年から 2016 年には 122 検体のうち 1 検体のみが陽性であった。これらの結果に基づくと、下痢を伴う小児および若年の癌患者においてルーチンのロタウイルス検査の有効性は乏しいようである。

監訳者コメント：
ロタウイルスワクチンが普及した状況においては担癌小児患者の下痢の原因としてロタウイルスが検出される頻度が極めて低かったことが示された。わが国でも 2013 年にはロタウイルスワクチン接種率が 45％と報告されており、ロタウイルス検査の適応や有用性について継続的な評価が必要であろう。またワクチン接種歴を聴取することも重要である。
