Reducing the risk of mouth-to-mouth transmission of pathogens via re-usable, machine-read parking tickets: an observational cohort study

研究対象病院の駐車場は、再使用可能な機械読み取り駐車券での利用ができる。本研究の初期段階では、駐車場に入場するスタッフ職員 598 名を観察し、このうち 21.6％が手にした駐車券を口にくわえた。紫外色素を用いて、カード間の交差汚染を確認した。駐車券読み取り機のスワブサンプルから、共生細菌（常在菌）であるコアグラーゼ陰性ブドウ球菌および Bacillus 属菌が回収された。
感染リスクの可能性がある旨のポスターを駐車券読み取り機に貼付した後、さらなる 1,366 回の観察において、駐車券を口にくわえるスタッフの割合が有意かつ持続的に減少した（P ＜ 0.001）。

駐車券を口にくわえる動作による交差感染を観察したユニークな研究である。読み取り機使用の前・後のどちらで、駐車券を口にくわえるか観察するとともに、色素をつけたカード、色素がついていないカードを順次読み取り機にかけ、後のカードの汚染具合を調査している。さらにチケット差込口の細菌・ウイルス培養を行っている。意識下であれ、無意識下であれ、普段の何気ない行動が微生物伝播に影響を及ぼしている好例である。
