Investigation of community carriage rates of Clostridium difficile and Hungatella hathewayi in healthy volunteers from four regions of England

2013 年 12 月から 2014 年 7 月までの間に、イングランドの 4 地域からの症状のない健常人 1,365 例の便標本について、クロストリジウム・ディフィシル（Clostridium difficile）のスクリーニングを行った。健常人における C. difficile の保菌率は 0.5％で、既報の数値よりも低かった。本研究から、英国の健常集団において、C. difficile の真の市中リザーバはきわめて少なく、よって、病院で診断される感染のリザーバとなる可能性は低い。

（注）Hungatella hathewayi は、2001 年に人の糞便から検出された新種の細菌で当初はClostridium hathewayi と命名されたが、2014 年に Hungatella hathewayi と改名された。C. difficile と比べ、H. hathewayi に関する報告はほとんどなく、その病原性や保菌率についてはほとんど分かっていない。アブストラクトには記載されていないが、本検討では H. hathewayi は C. difficile と比べて検出率は高かったが、病原性は乏しいと考えられたとある。
