Comparing non-safety with safety device sharps injury incidence data from two different occupational surveillance systems

針刺し・切創を防止するため、安全器材の使用を求めた「針刺し安全防止法」によって米国労働安全衛生局（OSHA）血液由来病原体基準が 2001 年に修正されている。針刺し・切創事例の経時的な変化には、安全器材／非安全器材の使用率の差が影響を及ぼしている。本研究では、米国の職業上の事故サーベイランスシステム 2 つを比較し、こうしたデータを、他の施設や他の国（法律が整備されているか、医療従事者の鋭利物損傷防止のための政策を立てることを検討しているかのいずれであれ）に一般化できるかどうかを評価した。

監訳者コメント：
本研究では、ノースカロライナ大学病院と、エピネット（EPINet）の 2 つのデーターベースを用い、安全器材の導入による針刺し切創、血液・体液曝露の事例数を解析した。安全器材を用いて生じた針刺し切創事例のうち、およそ 70％で安全機構を働かせていなかったこと、ならびに安全器材による事例数はむしろ最近増えていることが判明した。安全器材の実用に関する教育のみならず、導入時の評価と選択に関してより重点を置くべきであると筆者は結論付けている。
