資源が限られた欧州諸国において医療関連感染症の極めて重要な側面を評価し、効果的な感染制御のために取り組むべき最優先課題を正確に特定することを目的としたパネル調査の結果を報告する。質問票をデザインし、ブルガリア、ハンガリー、コソボ、ルーマニア、セルビアの患者安全のため感染予防を促進する欧州ネットワーク European NETwork to promote infection prevention for patint safety 各国代表らから情報を収集した。収集したデータに基づき、共通する重要な背景は既存の法律の厳密な実施、標準化された研修、政治的関与であり、それがこの地域の医療制度を国際的に推奨される感染予防の標準とそろえるために学ぶべき実例であると我々は結論づける。

医療資源が限られた国における感染対策は、それがおおよそ満たされた国々での感染対策に比べ、疾病の疫学・特徴の相違のみならず、直面する課題自体にも大きな違いがある。患者安全に関する東欧・中欧各国の代表を対象とした質問票による調査ではあるが、解決すべき課題について共通認識があることが浮き彫りになった。課題解決に向け、国際間の協調・協力をいかに行っていくのかも、今後注目されるところである。
