MERS-CoV in a healthcare worker in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia: an index case investigation

2015 年 9 月、サウジアラビア・ジェッダにおいて医療従事者の中東呼吸器症候群（MERS）感染が確定された。当時、ジェッダには MERS の確定例がなかったことを考慮し、初発症例の疫学調査を実施した。その結果、MERS のアウトブレイクの最中の2015 年 8 月にヨルダンの病院にいた者が、その後ジェッダで医療機関を受診し、初発症例の感染源となった可能性が高いことが判明した。

監訳者コメント：
サウジアラビアでは MERS の発生が続いていたが、確定例を丁寧に追跡していくことで、サウジアラビアの国内発生例からの感染ではなく、ヨルダンからの輸入例に職業的曝露を受けていたことが明らかになった。疫学調査の重要性を改めて強調するものであるといえる。
