First UK trial of Xenex PX-UV, an automated ultraviolet room decontamination device in a clinical haematology and bone marrow transplantation unit

背景
医療現場内での非接触式自動室内消毒装置の使用への関心が高まっている。Xenex PX-UV は、サイクル時間の短いパルス短波長紫外線（UV）照射による自動室内消毒装置である。
目的
本装置を臨床血液学部門内の隔離室の最終消毒用に設置したときの微生物学的有効性を検討すること。
方法
装置は血液内科の隔離室に設置した。頻繁に接触する箇所に接触培地を置き、好気性菌総コロニー数を測定した。バンコマイシン耐性腸球菌（VRE）検出用のサンプルは Polywipe^TM スポンジを用いて回収した。
結果
装置は移動および使用が容易であり、室内を迅速に消毒した。好気性菌総コロニー数は用手清掃後 76％減少し、UV 消毒後さらに 14％減少した結果、全体で好気性菌総コロニー数が 90％減少した。VRE が検出された箇所数は、用手洗浄後の 80 カ所中 26 カ所から、追加の UV 消毒による 80 カ所中 16 カ所へと 38％減少した。
結論
Xenex PX-UV 装置は、病室の退室時消毒のための簡便で迅速な追加の消毒段階となりうる。しかし、VRE に対する微生物学的有効性はいくらか限定的であった。

米国を中心に環境消毒の研究および市場への導入が進んでいる。本研究で用いられたデバイス（Xenex）も米国で使用実績のあるものである。この他にも環境消毒機器としては蒸気化過酸化水素を用いたものなどもあり、環境消毒を目的とした類似の機器の開発は今後も進められていくであろう。
