Carbapenemase-bearing Klebsiella spp. in sink drains: investigation into the potential advantage of copper pipes

流し台の排水管は、病原菌の住処として長らく知られており、加熱式流しトラップなど、病原菌を制御するための取り組みが行われている。流し台の出口管は、多剤耐性肺炎桿菌（Klebsiella pneumoniae）感染症のアウトブレイクとの関連が認められている。銅管への切り替えが交差感染を防止する可能性があるかどうかを検討するため、水を入れた容器に多剤耐性ヒト肺炎桿菌株を加え、そこに標準的な流し台の出口管の一部を入れた。銅管を入れた容器の水に含まれる細菌数は、ポリ塩化ビニル管を入れた容器の水に含まれる細菌数よりも少なかった。

監訳者コメント：
薬剤耐性肺炎桿菌を入れた水に銅製の配管の一部を入れたところ、菌の減少を認めた。銅（イオン）の抗菌効果は国内外で認められており、様々な取り組みが行われている。予算が許すのであれば、検討しても良いのかもしれない。
