西アフリカにおけるエボラウイルス病のアウトブレイクと、これに伴う医療サービスへの影響は、世界中の感染予防・制御チームに特異的かつ複雑な課題をもたらすこととなった。感染予防・制御チームは、時に矛盾し、しばしば直ちに改定される国内外の指針に直面し、患者と同僚の両者を適切に保護するという極めて重い責任を負わされた。本稿では、著者らの地域における経験について考察するとともに、われわれの組織がエボラウイルス病に備える際に直面した障壁のいくつかについて報告する。

監訳者コメント：
発展途上国における医療水準が向上して同等の水準が確保されれば、たとえ患者が発生してもこれだけの規模にはならなかっただろう。そういう意味では支援ではなく、現地で自立できる医療水準の確保が課題なのだ。
