医療関連感染症がもたらす課題を解決するためには、生物学的因子、治療因子、および組織的因子の相互関係を含む「医療経済全体」の視点が必要である。組織特性の重要性とその影響への注目が高まりつつある。本稿では、医療関連感染症に関連する患者の安全への取り組みの成功を推進すると考えられるいくつかの主要な特性について概説するとともに、さらなる考察と研究を要する領域を明らかにする。ガイドライン類や指標が及ぼす影響についても、臨床医に対して望ましい行動の実行を維持・持続させる必要性から生じるいくつかの課題と併せて論じる。電子医療ゲームなどの新規の技術的ソリューションや、ソーシャルメディアプラットフォームの活用は、従来の患者の安全向上への取り組みを支援・強化すると考えられる。最近公表された、感染予防・制御プログラムの主要な組織的要素および指標では、多様で集学的なソリューションを統合し、患者の安全についての組織文化の強化に努める包括的アプローチの必要性が強調されている。

耐性菌や針刺しなど日々の ICT 業務に追われていると、それだけで 1 日が終わってしまうことが多い。しかし時には「組織」のビジョンやミッションを見直し、最適化する努力をしないと、いつしか業務は破綻する。本論文は ICT のリーダーを含む「管理職」の方々にぜひお読みいただきたい 1 本である。
