1970 年代の全米病院感染サーベイランス（NNIS）システムの設立以来、いくつかの国々がサーベイランスシステムを独自に開発しており、いずれも手術部位感染を主要な対象としている。しかし、データの質や費用対効果に関して、それらのシステムの有効性をさらに評価する必要がある。本稿では、世界各国が使用している手術部位感染サーベイランスの主要な戦略について、人工股関節および人工膝関節感染に焦点を当て、文献を概観するとともに今後のサーベイランスデータベース開発に関する新たな問題点を考察する。

人工股関節および人工膝関節感染における手術部位感染サーベイランスの各国の実施状況に関する総説である。米国、フランス、スペインをはじめ 10 か国のサーベイランスシステムを紹介し、データ収集方法や退院後サーベイランスなどに依然として差があることが指摘されている。人力によるデータ収集・入力作業には限界があり、電子カルテなどを用いた病院情報システムの有効利用が期待されている。
