本総説の対象は、不測の低体温症を予防するために手術室で使用される温風式加温装置（FAW）による感染制御に関する危険についての実験的研究および臨床研究の公表文献である。そのエビデンスのレビューにあたっては、超清浄換気（UCV）の使用、UCV と種々の患者加温装置（特に FAW）との相互作用、および関連する手術部位感染症（SSI）のリスク上昇に重点を置いた。結論として、FAW は UCV の汚染をもたらすが、現時点の研究に基づくと、SSI リスク上昇との明確な関連はないようである。そのような関連は証明されていないものの、著者らは、術野の汚染が重大な問題を引き起こすと考えられる場合には、少なくとも患者加温装置として他のシステムを考慮すべきことを外科医に対して推奨する。本稿は、良好なランダム化臨床試験（現時点では存在しない）のシステマティックレビューではないが、この領域には決定的な研究が必要であることを明示するものである。

本論文は、整形外科インプラント手術時の超清浄換気（UCV）環境における、低体温予防のために使用する温風式加温装置（FAW）の SSI への影響に関するレビューである。結論は、手術時の体温維持の効果は疑う余地がないが、FAW 使用による UCV の気流の乱れは見過ごすことはできず、インプラント手術における SSI の発生率に関するエビデンスはまだ十分ではないため、明確な結論がでるまでは別の方法を選択したほうがよいとの著者たちの言葉である。
