クロルヘキシジングルコン酸塩で手指を前処置した後、ステンレススチール製ディスク上で乾燥させた黄色ブドウ球菌（Staphylococcus aureus）に接触させて、クロルヘキシジングルコン酸塩の残留活性を評価した。この方法では、測定を行った曝露後 15 分までに細菌の減少は観察されなかったことから、手指に残留したクロルヘキシジングルコン酸塩では診療時の一時的な微生物汚染は防御できないことが示唆された。

監訳者コメント：
消毒薬の有効性についてはこれまでも様々な実験系での検討がなされてきたが、その評価は容易ではない。日本環境感染学会では「生体消毒薬の有効性評価指針：手指衛生 2011」も公開されており、これらを参考にしながら、実験結果の臨床への応用は慎重に考えたいところである。
