本稿では、病院で使用している液体石けんのバッチのラオウルテラ・プランティコーラ（Raoultella planticola）による汚染について報告する。本菌は、自動同定システムによってその特性を明らかにすることができないため、最初は肺炎桿菌（Klebsiella pneumoniae）と同定された。病院環境で使用する化粧品の検査を強化する必要がある。感染リスクが極めて高い入院患者の手指衛生には抗菌性石けんの使用が推奨される。R. planticola は、自動同定システムでは誤ってクレブシエラ（Klebsiella）属菌に分類されることが多いため、本菌による感染の発生率は不明である。

監訳者コメント：
Raoultella 属菌はグラム陰性桿菌、莢膜をもつ非運動性の細菌であり、10℃で発育する特徴を有している。Raoultella 属には Klebsiella 属に分類されていたR. ornithinolytica、R. planticola、R. terrigena の3 菌種がある。R. planticola（旧名Klebsiella planticola）は水、土壌などの環境中から分離され、ヒトでは消化管分泌物、創傷、尿から分離される。4℃で発育する点を除き、一般的な性状では K. oxytoca と類似する。また新生児からの分離報告例があり、疾患との関連性があることを示す報告もある。
