イングランド北東部において麻疹アウトブレイク中に麻疹に感染した医療従事者の 2 症例、および免疫がないために長期間にわたり勤務から除外された第 3 の症例について報告する。医療従事者が麻疹に対する免疫を有していることを確認するための、さらなる取り組みが必要であることは明白である。ワクチン接種率の上昇は、単回の麻疹ワクチン接種プログラムを確立し、さらに雇用前スクリーニングの手順化を併用することによって可能となると考えられる。このようなプログラムは、ワクチン接種のインセンティブ付与または義務化によって強化できる。あらゆる立場の医療従事者および政策立案者が、院内獲得型麻疹感染の予防のために協調すべきである。

日本でも同様の事例は十分起きうる状況である。日本環境感染学会が発行する「院内感染対策としてのワクチンガイドライン」（2009年）には、医療従事者に求められる抗体価とワクチン接種の条件が掲載されているが、当然ながら、確実に実施できていないことが医療従事者の発症、院内での感染伝播につながる。抗体価が不十分であってもワクチン接種を受けないスタッフへのアプローチも悩ましい。
