Hospital washbasin water: risk of legionella-contaminated aerosol inhalation

レジオネラ菌が定着した病院内の洗面台の水からのエアロゾルの汚染について評価した。エアロゾルサンプルを 2 種類の液体捕集法（impingement technology）により採取した。いずれのエアロゾルサンプルからも、培養によりレジオネラ菌は検出されなかった。しかし、PCR 法ではエアロゾルサンプルの 45％（40 サンプル中 18）はレジオネラ（Legionella）属菌陽性であり、サンプルの 10％（40 サンプル中 4）では PCR 法の定量限界を超える濃度であった。さらに、免疫測定法によりレジオネラ・ニューモフィラ（Legionella pneumophila）血清型 1 およびレジオネラ・アニサ（L. anisa）が検出され、生死判別試験により生存の可能性がある細菌が認められた。これらのデータから、菌が定着した病院内の洗面台は、特に易感染患者に対して、レジオネラを含むエアロゾルを吸入する曝露リスクをもたらす可能性がある。
