Continuous exposure to Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) in healthcare workers does not result in KSHV infection

カポジ肉腫関連ヘルペスウイルス（KSHV または HHV-8）感染の経路、および職業曝露のリスクは十分明らかにされていない。著者らは、医療従事者の古典的カポジ肉腫患者への長期的職業曝露による KSHV 感染獲得リスクを分析し、カポジ肉腫患者の健康な親族から得られた結果と比較した。血清または唾液中の KSHV 特異的抗体および DNA の検出は、カポジ肉腫患者の健康な親族 35 名中 5 名にみられたのに対して、8 名の医療従事者では認められなかった。このことは、家族同士の密接な接触以外では、カポジ肉腫患者と長期間接触する医療従事者であっても、KSHV の水平伝播は極めて生じにくいことを示唆している。
