Probiotics: a new frontier for infection control

プロバイオティクスは、健康効果を得るために投与される生きた微生物と定義されている。調査研究と日常診療（例えば新生児集中治療室などにおける）という医療の両分野で、プロバイオティクスの使用が増加している。現在のところ、臨床診療でのプロバイオティクスの使用に関連する感染リスクの軽減を管理するためのガイドラインや規制は少ない。本稿では、リスク軽減を目的とした一連の推奨事項を提案する。その内容は、適切な関係者へのプロバイオティクス使用の連絡、日常的な検査によりプロバイオティクス株の感受性を判定・検査できるようにすること、調製と投与に関する基準を確立すること、および有害事象を把握するためのサーベイランス方法の確立などである。
