Glycerol significantly decreases the three hour efficacy of alcohol-based surgical hand rubs

背景
擦式アルコール製剤に含まれるグリセロールは、皮膚の状態および使用者の満足度に良好な影響をもたらすが、著者らの知る限り、術前の擦式アルコール製剤の殺菌効果への影響については報告がない。
目的
80％（w/w）エタノール、75％（w/w）イソプロパノール、および 60％（V/V） n-プロパノールによる手指常在菌叢の減少に対して、グリセロールが及ぼす影響を調査すること。
方法
術前の擦式製剤の効果を評価するためにボランティアの手指を使用して一連の in vivo 検査を実施し、欧州規格 EN 12791 に従って 3 種類のアルコール製剤の効果を 1.45％（V/V）グリセロールの有無別に調べた。24 名のボランティアに製剤をランダムに割り付け、手指に 3 分間擦り込ませた。指先のサンプルからの生菌数を、それぞれの処置前、処置直後、および3時間後に比較した。
結果
3 種類のグリセロール非含有アルコール製剤の 3 時間後の殺菌効果は、グリセロール含有製剤よりも有意に高かった（P ＜ 0.01）。エタノール製剤では、処置直後の効果も同様であった。
結論
1.45％（V/V）グリセロールは手術用擦式アルコール製剤の殺菌効果、特に持続的効果を抑制する。
