集中治療室（ICU）の患者の連日の入浴とクロルヘキシジン局所使用によりメチシリン耐性黄色ブドウ球菌（meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus；MRSA）保菌が減少する。本研究の目的は、連日のオクテニジン局所使用の週 5 日間サイクル反復による効果は同様であるかどうかを調べることである。今回の内科外科混合 ICU・高度治療室における 2 年間の後向き非対照試験では、MRSA 保菌は 76％減少したが、ICU 獲得型の全菌血症については有意な減少は認められなかった。クロルヘキシジンの使用は増加している一方で、耐性も報告されている。このパイロット研究により、オクテニジンはクロルヘキシジンの代替として MRSA 保菌を同様に減少させることが示された。その因果関係を明確にするために、さらなる研究が必要である。
