不適切な除毛は、術後の手術部位感染（SSI）のリスク因子である。入院前自己除毛に関する産科患者の啓発のために一連の介入を実施した。帝王切開後に、入院患者および外来患者の SSI の積極的サーベイランスを前向きに実施した。自己除毛率は 2008 年の 41％から、ポスターおよび強力な出産前教育実施後の 2011 年には 27％に有意に低下した（P ＝ 0.048）。同時に、帝王切開後の SSI 発生率は 51％低下した。この多角的戦略により入院前の全自己除毛、特に剃毛の減少に成功した。SSI 予防のために同時に実施したその他の介入も、SSI 発生率の減少に寄与したと考えられる。
