重症管理室におけるメチシリン耐性黄色ブドウ球菌（meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus；MRSA）保菌のスクリーニングについては、いまだに意見が分かれている問題である。この横断研究では、ウェールズの病院の成人重症管理室における MRSA スクリーニングの方針について調査した。構造化質問票を用いてデータを収集した。本研究により、普遍的スクリーニングからスクリーニング非実施まで、実践にはばらつきがあることが判明した。各施設の保菌率と感染率を考慮しつつ、施設の MRSA 対策を再検討するべきことが推奨される。また、基本的な感染制御戦略の遵守の対象には、MRSA 感染のみならず他の医療関連感染も含めるべきである。
