Bordetella pertussis in a neonatal intensive care unit: identification of the mother as the likely source

百日咳の原因菌である百日咳菌（Bordetella pertussis）は強い感染性を有する。妊娠 34 週で出生した双生児 1 の女児が新生児集中治療室に 19 日間入室し、無呼吸および徐脈を認めた。臨床的に百日咳が疑われた際に鼻腔スワブを採取し、B. pertussis が培養された。双生児 2 も同様の症状を示した。双生児の母親は咳が長期間持続していた。両双生児の鼻腔スワブは PCR 法で B. pertussis 陽性であり、母親は血清陽性であった。事故管理委員会が召集された。接触者として新生児 50 名と医療従事者 117 名が特定された。これらの接触者には情報提供を行い、英国のガイドラインに従ってアジスロマイシンによる化学予防および/または百日咳ワクチン接種を実施した。
