Lack of enhanced effect of a chlorine dioxide-based cleaning regimen on environmental contamination with Clostridium difficile spores

クロストリジウム・ディフィシル（Clostridium difficile）芽胞は医療環境内での疾患伝播に重要な役割を果たしている可能性があり、種々の清掃用薬剤や洗浄液に耐性を示す。近年は、様々な環境清掃用薬剤が利用可能となっており、その多くは殺芽胞効果をうたっている。著者らは二酸化塩素ベースの消毒薬を用いた清掃法への変更が C. difficile による環境汚染および患者の感染率に及ぼす効果を調査した。環境汚染率は変更前 8％（9/120）、変更後 8％（17/212）であり、影響を受けなかった。患者の感染率も変更前後の期間を通じて変化がなかった。

二酸化塩素の殺芽胞効果については、芽胞が死滅するのに必要な二酸化塩素の濃度の人体への影響を考慮すると、目的を果たし得るかを含めてやや疑問が残る。
