Application of copper to prevent and control infection. Where are we now?

背景
銅の抗菌作用はかなり以前から知られており、その環境汚染低減作用およびそれに基づく医療関連感染予防作用から、医療環境で利用できる可能性がある。
目的
銅を利用することの理論的根拠、銅の抗菌作用の機序、およびその有効性のエビデンスをレビューすること。
方法
PubMed を用いて公表文献の検索を行った。
結果
銅を接触表面の素材とした場合や、布や液体に含有させた場合の殺生物作用を調べるために、これまでに様々な実験室内研究が行われている。臨床的な試験はわずかであり、有望な結果は得られているものの、重要な諸問題が未解決のままとなっている。特に、有効性を発揮するために必要な銅合金の最小含有率、銅の殺生物作用に対する有機汚染物質の影響、および銅製表面の日常的な洗浄の最適な方法について、意見の一致は得られていない。銅製表面によるクロストリジウム・ディフィシル（Clostridium difficile）の殺芽胞能力に関する情報は少ない。
結論
銅製表面の導入により医療関連感染発生率が低下することを示すさらなる研究が必要であり、このような介入の費用対効果を評価する必要がある。臨床環境での感染予防・制御を目的として日常的に銅を利用することの有益性を実証し、推奨するためには、多くの項目に関して研究を積み重ねる必要がある。
