侵襲性 A 群レンサ球菌（GAS）感染症の病院アウトブレイク調査では、医療従事者が初発症例となることが多い。職員のスクリーニングが必要であると考えられるが、その実施指針は様々である。まれな遺伝子型の GAS に感染した患者に共通する曝露があるかどうかを明らかにするための解析を行い、職員に対して自己採取によるスクリーニング検査を依頼した。スワブ陰性にもかかわらずアウトブレイクが持続したため、特定の医療従事者に労働衛生部門の受診を求めた。その後、初発症例は、同一の遺伝子型のまれな GAS 感染による皮膚症状を有することが確認された。アウトブレイクの際は、労働衛生部門で医療従事者の臨床的調査を行うことが重要である。
