気候変動や化石燃料の枯渇のため、先進国は代替クリーンエネルギーを模索せざるを得ない。豊富な太陽光に恵まれたアジアおよびアフリカ諸国では太陽熱調理器が開発されつつあるが、まだ早期段階にある。この技術を用いた移動式オートクレーブがインドで開発された。Prince-40 Concentrator は、小規模な検査室環境における培地のオートクレーブ滅菌および医療廃棄物処理に十分な能力を備えており、1 年あたり 15,000 ルピー(188.10 ポンド)相当の電力、または 37,500 ルピー(470.25 ポンド)相当の LPG を節約することができる。この技術は、停電が頻発したり電力が供給されていない農村部の医療施設で多大な利用が期待される。

監訳者コメント:
この論文で取り上げられたオートクレーブは、構造上、気象条件に影響を受けるように思われる。しかし、太陽光エネルギーは、災害時の応用などにも期待される分野である。
