Unexpected absence of meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus nasal carriage by healthcare workers in a tertiary hospital in Kenya

医療従事者はメチシリン耐性黄色ブドウ球菌（meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus；MRSA）の主要なリザーバである。2010 年 7 月から 12 月にナイロビの Aga Khan 大学病院で、MRSA 鼻腔内保菌率の調査のために横断研究を実施した。医療従事者 246 名を無作為に選択し、鼻腔内スワブを採取した。MRSA の同定は、表現型および遺伝子型の両解析法により行った。MRSA 保菌率は 0％（95％信頼区間［CI］0％ ～ 1.5％）であったが、メチシリン感性黄色ブドウ球菌（meticillin-resistant S. aureus）保菌率は 18.3％（95％CI 14.0％ ～ 23.6％）であった。当院で MRSA が認められなかったことを考慮すると、医療従事者を対象としたスクリーニングはアウトブレイク時のみに実施すべきである。
