表在性皮膚感染および熱傷創感染の予防方法として、乳酸桿菌の局所投与が注目されている。アルギン酸カルシウムのフィルムに固定したラクトバチルス・プランタルム(Lactobacillus plantarum)の特性を調べ、ラットの熱傷創モデルを用いてこれらのフィルムの抗菌活性を評価した。多剤耐性の臨床分離株である VIM-2-メタロβ-ラクタマーゼ産生緑膿菌(Pseudomonas aeruginosa)を指標株として用いた。L. plantarum を 108 cfu/mL の細胞濃度で含有したフィルムにより、熱傷創モデルの緑膿菌は 5 ~ 6 log10 減少した。凍結乾燥アルギン酸カルシウムフィルムに固定された L. plantarum は、4℃の保存で 6 か月間生残した。

監訳者コメント

熱傷の感染予防は非常に難しい。特に多剤耐性緑膿菌(MDRP)などの感染症をきたしやすく、国内での MDRP 集団発生事例の原因としても知られている。乳酸桿菌に着目したこの方法は、新たな感染予防策として大きな可能性を秘めていると考えられる。
