ナーシングホーム入居者の感染予防を目的とする一連のコンセンサスガイドラインを作成するため、デルファイ法による 2 段階のウェブベースの全国調査を実施した。6 名の専門家からなる調査会メンバーが研究グループを主導した。本研究の解析担当者が、感染予防に関する英語またはフランス語で発表された診療ガイドライン、システマティックレビュー、および論文・抄録の文献検索およびレビューを行った。23 名の専門家が文献検索結果を精査し、301 項目の推奨事項の予備的リストを作成した。感染予防・制御および老年医学の領域に関連するあらゆる医学分野からの専門家 81 名が、デルファイ調査用のオンラインツールを使用し、各推奨事項に対する同意の程度を 9 段階の尺度（1 ＝ 強く反対、9 ＝ 強く同意）により評価した。2 段階目の調査では、79 名の参加者が初回調査の匿名のフィードバックを受け取り、130 項目に絞られた推奨事項を評価した。スコア中央値および何％の評価者による評価を受けたのかに基づいて推奨事項を選抜し、分類した。10％以上の項目に対して評価を行った評価者は 79 名であった。264 項目の推奨事項が選抜され、このうち 240 項目がコンセンサスに到達、24 項目がコンセンサスにほぼ到達、37 項目が却下、1 項目が取り消しとされた。病弱な高齢者の多くの感染症は、すべてではないが予防が可能である。したがって、医療従事者および医療施設はこれらのガイドラインを採用し、定期的な感染制御策を実施すべきである。
