殺菌効果に関する報告は多いが、各試験が対象としている細菌株の数が限られていることや、検査方法が異なることが多いため、細菌の消毒薬耐性についての信頼性が高い適切な全体像を把握することは困難である。本研究の目的は、産業・医療環境で多く使用されている 3 種類の消毒薬（過酢酸、塩化ベンザルコニウム、オルトフタルアルデヒド）の殺菌効果を、由来の異なる 77 の細菌株を対象として、単一の標準的検査法（NF EN 1040）により評価することである。本研究の結果から、消毒薬耐性の菌種間の相違が大きいこと、また通説とは異なり、耐性はグラム陽性株のほうがグラム陰性株よりも概して高度である可能性があることが明らかになった。また、過酢酸に対する枯草菌（Bacillus subtilis）、塩化ベンザルコニウムに対する緑膿菌（Pseudomonas aeruginosa）、およびオルトフタルアルデヒドに対する黄色ブドウ球菌（Staphylococcus aureus）など、同一菌種の中でも株間に耐性の相違が認められた。

膨大な検証を行った価値の高い論文である。第三者評価的な、こうした消毒効果の評価論文の蓄積は大変重要である。
