環境汚染と空中細菌数:ヒドロキシラジカル消毒装置の有用性?

環境汚染は病院内での感染伝播に一定の役割を果していると考えられており、感染防止における新しい空気消毒装置への関心が高まっている。この研究では、臨床的な環境においてヒドロキシラジカル空気消毒装置(Inov8 ユニット)による空中細菌数減少効果を評価した。環境汚染の評価は下記の 3 か所における静置培地および空気サンプルで実施した。(1)非臨床部門の部屋、(2)同一の非臨床部門の部屋で既定の動作を実行、および(3)個室の集中治療室である。空中細菌数および環境汚染率を Inov8 ユニットのオンとオフで比較した。Inov8 ユニットの使用により、各部位の空気サンプルおよび静置培地のいずれにおいても、細菌数は全体として減少していた(P < 0.001、Wilcoxon 符号付順位和検定)。空気サンプル中の細菌数減少の平均値は、部位 1、2、3 でそれぞれ 26%、39%、55%であった。対応する静置培地での減少は、それぞれ 35%、62%、54%であった。以上の結果より、このタイプの新しい空気消毒装置は、隔離病室内の空気の質改善および環境汚染減少に有用であると考えられる。さらなる研究により、特定の病原体に対する効果を評価するとともに、この装置により環境からのそのような病原体による患者や医療従事者の感染リスクが減少するかどうかを明らかにすることが必要である。

空気汚染除去システムとしては、移動型 HEPA フィルタ装置や過酸化水素ドライミスト発生装置などがあるが、この研究は英国バッキンガムの Invo8 サイエンス社による新しいヒドロキシラジカル空気消毒装置の効果を検証している。落下細菌や空気サンプルでは効果が認められているが、さらに臨床的な効果が明らかにされる必要がある。
