Bacterial contamination of hands and the environment in a microbiology laboratory

本研究では、検査技師の細菌による手指汚染に対する手袋着用の効果、および潜在的病原細菌による微生物検査室の環境汚染の程度について調査した。本研究に参加した検査技師を 2 群に分け、一方の群は細菌培養操作時に常に手袋を着用し、もう一方の群は手袋を着用しなかった。規定の勤務時間の前後に、技師の手指から半定量的に細菌サンプルを採取した。検査室内の接触頻度が高い部位から 4 週間にわたりサンプルを採取し、選択培地または発色酵素基質培地を用いてメチシリン耐性黄色ブドウ球菌（meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus；MRSA）、緑膿菌（Pseudomonas aeruginosa）、サルモネラ（Salmonella）属菌、および腸内細菌科細菌の同定を行った。手袋を着用しない検査技師は、勤務時間後の MRSA 獲得リスクが有意に高かったが、腸内細菌科細菌の獲得については手袋着用による保護効果はみられなかった。獲得した病原菌の除去における手洗いの効果は、両群で同等であった。環境サンプルについては、採取箇所の 5 分の 1 で MRSA の存在が確認され、最も回収頻度が高かったのはコンピューターキーボードであった。腸内細菌科細菌および緑膿菌は、環境からの回収頻度が少なかった。今回の研究により、手袋着用は MRSA 獲得に対する保護効果があり、MRSA は微生物検査室環境からの回収頻度が最も高い病原細菌であることが示された。

監訳者コメント：
臨床微生物検査技師の手技が適切に実施されているかが問われる。ここでは記載されていないが、喀痰の一般細菌培養検査を侮り、バイオハザード対策を怠ると結核菌感染のリスクも被ることになる。
