Point-of-use filtration method for the prevention of fungal contamination of hospital water

病院用水は、免疫不全患者の生命を脅かす感染症を引き起こすことがある日和見真菌症の感染源となり得るとするデータが公表されている。採水口フィルターは細菌を捕捉できることが知られているが、真菌曝露量の減少効果についてはほとんど不明である。著者らは、アスペルギルス・フミガツス（Aspergillus fumigatus）やその他の糸状菌による汚染レベルに対する採水口フィルター（Pall-Aquasafe^R）の効果を調査した。ノルウェー・オスロにある国立病院の小児骨髄移植部門において、数か所の出水口（蛇口、シャワー部）に、採水口フィルターを設置した。このほかに試験用装置を用いた有効性の調査を実施した。装置を用いた試験では、フィルターによるコロニー形成単位数の減少効果が高い状態が15日間以上にわたり持続した。小児骨髄移植部門ではフィルターによる水中真菌の除去は1日目から認められたが、水中粒子によるフィルターの目詰まりのため、その後の評価が不能となった。この研究の結果から、採水口のろ過は各採水口での糸状真菌を除去する効果的な予防法であることが示唆され、これにより患者への曝露量が減少すると考えられた。

医療環境で使用する水については、「管理された水道水」が基本であり、現場レベルの管理としては蛇口やシャワー・ヘッドなどの出水口の管理が重要である。
