オランダにおける院内感染症サーベイランスのためのPREZIES全国ネットワークでは、2007年から年2回の全国有病率調査を実施している。この論文は初期4回の調査結果を報告する。オランダの95病院のうち41病院がのべ92回の調査に参加して、対象患者は26,937例であった。調査日の時点で6.2％の患者に院内感染症が認められた（感染症有病率は7.2％）。感染症有病率は病院によって1.4％から16.5％のばらつきがあった。有病率は外科手術部位感染症4.8％、肺炎1.1％、原発性血流感染症0.5％、症候性尿路感染症1.7％であった。入院時に院内感染症を有していた患者は3.3％であった。調査日の時点で30.9％の患者が抗菌薬を投与されていた。抗菌薬と医療器材の使用状況は病院間で大きく異なっていた。オランダにおける院内感染症有病率および抗菌薬と医療器材の使用状況はいずれも他の欧州諸国と同様であった。

やはり急性期ケア病院における医療関連感染症の有病率は5％から10％の範囲となる。
