Impact of the amount of hand rub applied in hygienic hand disinfection on the reduction of microbial counts on hands

2種類の擦式手指消毒薬を対象として、殺菌効果を得るために必要な最少量を調べるために、欧州規格（EN）1500に従って研究を実施した。また、手の大きさとの相関を評価することも目的とした。今回の研究の参加者は、手が大きい（平均184 cm²）男性ボランティア8名および手がかなり小さい（平均148 cm²、P ＜ 0.001）女性ボランティア8名であった。いずれの製品でも2 mLを使用した場合の平均log₁₀減少値は、対照消毒薬よりも有意に小さかった（製品A：製品3.34、対照4.00、P ＝ 0.001；製品B：製品3.37、対照3.75、P ＝ 0.022）。使用量が増えた場合（製品A：3および4 mL；製品B：2.5、3、および4 mL）は、EN 1500の合格基準に到達した。両製品とも使用量が増えるとlog₁₀減少値が増加してプラトーに達した。手の小さい女性では、製品Aは3 mL、製品Bは2.5 mLを使用したときにプラトーに達した。男性の手の場合のプラトーは、製品Aは4 mL以上、製品Bは3 mLを使用したときにみられた。また、製品使用量の増加は、使用量が十分ではないと感じるボランティアの数の減少とも相関していた。結論として、擦式手指消毒薬による効果の最大化を図るためには、使用量が3 mLを下回らないようにすべきである。

監訳者コメント：
擦式アルコール手指消毒薬も十分量を使用しないと十分な効果が得られず、この論文では少なくとも3 mLを手に取るべきであると結論している。やはり手指衛生にも正しい方法があり、手の全体を消毒するように手技を徹底する必要がある。
