Noroviruses in healthcare settings: a challenging problem

医療関連感染症としてのノロウイルスに関する現行の知見は表層的なものに過ぎない。データのほとんどはアウトブレイクに基づく研究に由来するものであり、ジグソーパズルの一部のピースに過ぎない。とはいえ現行のデータからは、ノロウイルスの臨床的影響は特に医療環境におけるアウトブレイクでは深刻であり、しかも増加傾向にあることが示唆される。65歳を超える人口、とりわけ医療を必要とする集団が著しく増加していることを考慮すると、医療関連感染症をめぐる議論においてノロウイルスを取り上げることは、時宜にかなっている。特に、抗菌薬耐性の問題への対処の際に生じる新たなリスクを回避するためには、微生物学的問題に傾注した議論からは視野を広げて、医療関連感染に対処するためのより包括的なアプローチを採用する必要があると考えられる。
