Outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes in an oncology unit associated with sandwiches consumed in hospital

2003年5月、腫瘍部門の2例の成人患者がリステリア症と診断され、病院で食べたサンドイッチが共通のリスク因子と判定された。両患者はリステリア・モノサイトゲネス（Listeria monocytogenes）の同一菌株に感染していた。病院および院外のサンドイッチ製造業者から回収したサンドイッチと複数の製造環境内が、L. monocytogenesの同一菌株に汚染されていた。他の病院で食べられたサンドイッチは、英国のリステリア症患者の小規模クラスターと関連していた。本報告では、2件のリステリア症診断後の調査について述べるとともに、病院内で販売されているサンドイッチに関する一般的な問題に焦点を当てる。

監訳者コメント：
病院内の食事提供設備は、病院内で調理を行う場合は比較的管理が容易であるが、外部で行う場合は管理が非常に難しい。したがって、本事例のような食中毒を完全に防止するのは困難であり、むしろその早期発見と事後対応が大切と言える。また、外部の給食設備業者などと品質管理に関する話し合いや見学などを行い、相互の理解を深めることが、多少なりとも発生をコントロールするものになると言える。
