感染予防と感染制御は、医療機関が患者の安全を確保するための最優先事項である。イングランド南東部の独立セクターのホスピスは、専門的な緩和ケアを提供するとともに、ホスピスの登録機関および英国衛生法（UK Health Act、2006年）に従ってリスク低減策を提示することが求められる。クリニカル・ガバナンス^※の枠組みを利用することにより、基本方針、プロセス、および手続きが用意されていることを確認できる。標準予防策を実践し、これによりエビデンスに基づく現行の知識が上述の目的のために伝達されていることを確認できる。これは、新規スタッフと既存のスタッフに対する教育プログラムと定期的な情報更新によって達成される。最終目的は、医療スタッフから患者への交差感染の伝播を抑制することである。
