Patients and the public: knowledge, sources of information and perceptions about healthcare-associated infection

英国では、医療関連感染に関する情報は法定団体が提供している。情報は、国民保健サービストラストのウェブサイトでも閲覧することができる。世論調査では、医療関連感染の発生、とりわけメチシリン耐性黄色ブドウ球菌への危惧が、医療に関心をもつ人々の随一の懸念であることが示されている。文献レビューにより、医療関連感染に関する一般市民の知識、情報源、およびリスクの認識について評価した。22件の研究が組み入れ基準に合致した。このうち9件では、研究の主要目的として知識と認識を調査していた。そのほかは、異なる集団間で知識と認識を比較した研究や、その感染・保菌や隔離の経験を比較した研究の種々の組み合わせであった。すべての報告において、一般市民は医療関連感染のリスクと影響について不安を述べていた。最も報告頻度の高い情報源はメディアであり、扇情的であること、および報告が不正確であることが非難されていた。一般市民は信頼できる情報源にアクセスしていないと考えられ、またアクセスしていてもその意味を理解できていない。患者向けの医療関連感染情報を提供している機関は対象範囲が全般的であるため、固有の情報を得るには時間と手間を要する。医療を受けようとしている人々に妥当なレベルの安心感を提供するためには、一般向けの医療関連感染の情報源の受容性、包含性、およびアクセス性を調査し、リスクの認識を現実的なレベルに補正する方法を見いだすための研究が必要である。

科学的な情報を市民にも分かりやすく伝えることは重要であり、ここ数年来、米国CDCでも医療従事者向けより一般家庭向けの情報戦略にむしろ力を注いでいる。一方、メディアの人材育成も重要である。
