感染リスクの管理は感染制御専門家の中心的活動であるが、感染制御のリスク管理に関する文献は比較的少ない。本総説の目的は、さらに解明と研究を進めるべき領域に注意を引くことである。例として、リスク管理の目的、留意すべきリスクの解明、専門家と非専門家の両者を対象とした専門用語の統一、病院感染の制御におけるリスク補償の重要性に関する研究などである。

多分に概念的な論文であり、感染制御の実務者レベルでは直接役立つことは必ずしも多くないかと思われる。少々難解でもある。
