Removing bacteria from hospital surfaces: a laboratory comparison of ultramicrofibre and standard cloths

超極細繊維（ultramicrofibre）製布地と通常の布地を水のみで湿らせて、病院環境の種々の表面から数種類の病院感染起因菌を除去する能力を比較した。著者らは、超極細繊維製布地の汚染除去能力は、あらゆる表面において通常の布地よりも一貫して優れていることを明らかにした。この結果は、実際の汚染をシミュレートするためにリン酸緩衝生理食塩水（PBS）とウマ血清含有PBSのいずれを用いて細菌を各表面に塗布しても同様であった。布地が表面から細菌を除去する性能の評価は、接触培地法、コロニー形成、スワブ試料のATPバイオルミネッセンス法により行った。その結果、病院環境での超極細繊維製布地の使用可能性が示唆された。しかし、洗浄剤および殺生物剤を使用しないことを前提として開発されたこの布地が、病院環境でどの程度安全かつ有効に活用または再利用できるかを正確に判定するには、さらなる研究が必要である。

監訳者コメント：
超極細繊維による院内清掃は現在注目を集めている分野である。ATPバイオルミネッセンス法による検証も興味深い。経済性と清浄効果のバランスがとれれば、十分に実用製品が市場に投入されるであろう。
