監訳者コメント：
欧州連合EU（European Union）では市場に製品を上梓する際に、一定の基準を満たすことを意味するCEマーク（Conformite Europeene）を獲得しておく必要がある。欧州統一基準はブリュッセルに本部をおく欧州規格委員会（CEN；Comite Europeen de Normalisation）で決定されるが、国際標準化機構（ISO；International Standards Organization）などとも協調して活動している。CENにはいくつかの技術委員会（TC；Technical Committee）があり、消毒薬についてはTC 216が担当している。手順を追って欧州規格（EN；European Norm）が決定されるが、これらの基準はヨーロッパ各国においても認証される必要があり、イギリスBSI、ドイツDIN、フランスANFORなど、国内機関でも統一基準となる。消毒薬に関するENは一般細菌、真菌・酵母、結核・抗酸菌、ウイルス、芽胞に分類して基準が設定されているところも興味深い。
