南ドイツ・ウルム大学病院は1,100床あまりの施設であるが、すべての医療従事者の中からランダムに1,500人にアンケートを配布した。看護師が半数、医師と技術職が残りのおよそ3分の1ずつであった。大勢の希望を反映する理想的な製品とは、特別な臭いや色がなく、液体の形で壁掛けまたは留置式ディスペンサーを用いるものであり、微生物に対する十分な殺滅効果をもち、かつ皮膚に優しいものであった。ドイツの医療従事者も手指消毒薬に関して日本と同様のことを考えていることがわかる。
